First off, I am very sad to see the news that referrals and TAs may be delayed due to the swine flu situation. I didn't think it would come to that and really feel for those families still waiting for TA or for referral. I remember how difficult, in particular, that wait for TA became. Despite the challenges, it is so much easier on the other side of the wait and I want all those families holding those pictures to just be able to make that final step to the other side.
In other news, it has proven to be an exceedingly busy but a good week. I have picked up a bit of the day care crud via my girl. There is snot all around again. But, at least I have the luxury of blowing my nose. Poor kiddo...ugh. I'm going through the Boogie Wipes like they're going out of style around here. Even so, what's a little snot when everything else is perking up?
What's good?
- Pretty weather has allowed for walks with my gal.
- I'm truly getting back in my groove at work (very, very slowly ;0)
- Day care nights are going DRAMATICALLY better. We slept all night last night and the end of last week was great too. Woot!
- Day care days seem to be easier as well. C has made buddies with a little Japanese girl about her age. Her being there made drop off a bit smoother yesterday. The one time I came in and they were playing and holding hands. THAT was some cute stuff.
- The improvements in our relating and my girl's 'outside behaviors' has been amazing over this past week. Reeling things in really was a great part of the answer, I believe.
- I was distraught last Monday with worry about going back to full-time next week and call this weekend. C's ped refocused me in a good way. I'm worried about how stressed C will be yet her ped suggested that she thought things would go even BETTER once I was back to full time because the routine would be far more predictable. Right now, it isn't clear to her what is a work day or a home day. I'm going to roll with that.
- Observed behaviors at the doc's office were FAR more appropriate. She showed definitive stranger anxiety and let the doc know exactly what she thought of being examined. It was a good thing! She is turning to me much more often for reassurance. Certainly, this is an ongoing process but, for now, things are heading in the right direction and I couldn't be happier about that. We have not had an anxious, angry scratching episode in more than a week.
- Ear tubes are still on the table with the decision to be made in 4 weeks. We need complete clearance of fluid to make it a no-go. I am fully expecting to be put on the schedule. I'm fine with that. I worry about my girl's hearing affecting her speech development. So, yeah, I call following up with that a 'good'.
- C turned 15 months old yesterday. We've been together nearly two months. It still amazes me HOW MUCH HAS CHANGED in such a short time. We are both worlds away from the people we were two months ago. I love that each and every day brings something new (granted, I don't always love what that new thing is ;0). But, this is one amazing journey and I am glad I get to be on it for the rest of my days.

I'm so glad to hear that things are on the upswing and that "C" is turning to you for comfort and reassurance. Sounds like you are settling into mamahood quite nicely.
I'm SO glad things are going smoother at your house - and kudos to you for not being afraid of the tubes. It makes a huge difference. Anya had tubes put in around age two because of chronic ear infections and because it was definitely affecting her speech(She ended up having to have them twice - 2 and 4). Today she is doing great...only one ear in the last three years...and almost perfect speech. I think she'll 'graduate' out of speech this fall! :)
Sleep, a wonderful thing and I'm happy to hear that it's getting better again. Sending good thoughts that the good times continue and get better and better with each day.
Awesome!!! All such good stuff to hear. But WOW, two months already??? Gawd how time flies.
Hoping the tubes are a non-necessity, but I know from experience with my Bella, that it was a blessing in disguise. She is a much healthier kid now, and at 5yrs old they are gone and a distant memory.
Have a good rest of the week... :o)
So glad to hear that things are improving. The no scratching for a week is welcome relief, I'm sure.
Love the updates.
Hi. I been following along your journey for awhile now and am so happy that things are settling in more and more.
Just a quick suggestion with regard to 'snot'. Have you seen the little white snot suckers. (It looks like the mole sisters (the tv show) only it's white with a clear curved end. They work like a charm (for the kiddos - I personally prefer kleenex for myself - hehe).
Best of luck!

Yeah!! So glad to hear this has been a good week. I hope it continues on that way. Don't get to discouraged if you happen to get a set back or two. Just keep rolling with the punches.
I agree with wanda on the snot suckers.. lol. Maddy does hate them though. She has learned to blow her nose quite well as long as I don't bring out the "sniffer". :0)
We've got the snot sucker too and do use it. Whew, it IS an event. You would think I was torturing her when that thing comes out.
Happy to see things are on the upswing... It's amazing how these little ones change so quickly. Sorry you were experiencing some problems... I think the adjustment is harder on some little ones, but once they are on a schedule they seem to do better.
C is just beautiful, her smile is wonderful.. I know she will bring you so much happiness. Lauren has already brought so much to our family. We are amazed at how much she has already learned and at her happy nature, although she does let you know what she wants or doesn't want. I like that, it shows her spirit.
Looking forward to reading more about your adventures with C.... Linda
Wheee! Isn't it funny how life changes and you see screaming at the docs office as a good thing? So many wonderful things happening friend! So thankful!!
Holding hands? Way too cute!!
I just love reading your posts! So glad to hear things with C are on the upswing!
Sending positive vibes your way for the back to work time!!
Hugs, Jill
So glad to hear things are going alot better in the house of Cs!! It truly is a day-to-day thing, this parenting business!!! Tari has been such a dream and easy-going little girl... til this week! The poor wee girl, I think has finally cracked her "grieving". She's cried a river this week, with no apparent cause. I usually cry with her!!! Its been full-on, but I do feel relieved, that she's finally let a bit go. I knew the honeymoon had to end sometime!!!
((hugs)) thanks for always leaving such encouraging comments on my blog! It makes a huge difference having friends, like you, on this journey.
Don't get me started on the H5N1 aka "swine flu" thing. Lane and my mom are scheduled to leave on the 4th of June but I'm becoming less hopeful that they will be able to go get our baby girl who desperately needs to come home and start surgeries to fix her CL/CP. I'll stop feeling sorry for myself...
I'm thrilled to hear that life for you and C is becoming better. I can only imagine how hard of an adjustment it is. I think it's interesting that some children adapt very quickly and others it takes a long time. You just have to keep reminding yourself that although times get rough (trust me I'm seriously in the midst of a very rough patch with my 5 yr old) God doesn't give us more than we can handle.
SO glad to hear things continue to be on the upswing mom!
Did you read the letter from the CCAA? It's posted on RQ now, and it's a lot more encouraging than I expected. I understand it to mean
that CCAA is asking agencies to "counsel" their clients and if clients choose to delay travel, their TA's will be extended. They mention nothing about referrals or stopping them. Go and read if you haven't :O)
So glad to read your post and that things are going better. Amazing the changes that occur in such a relatively short time period. Take care.
Janet
this all sounds so good! well, except for the snot part.
So glad to hear that things are lookin up. Can you send some of that nice warm weather my way??? Yup, the nose wipin, aint it fun. I love that CW has found a friend at daycare. So cute !!!
Happy 15 mos. C!
It sounds like you two are doing so well and so glad to hear that your baby girl made a nice friend. That's so cute about them holding hands. You gotta get a picture of the cuteness for us. :)
Hugs,
Jonni
Glad to hear the adjustment period is going good. Try not to worry too much, C is in good hands and hopefully you will be busy enough that you don't fret or call her caregivers constantly, lol.
