This face sponsored by: Omnicef, Albuterol & Ibuprofen..and some other fun pics

Thank you, thank you! I do believe we are rounding the bend. This was my wild wing this morning. SO much better than the droop of yesterday. She still rattles in the chest quite a bit, has a head full of snot and a bit of ear pulling but we're getting there. She even let me mask her for the inhaled meds today without wanting to tear my face off now...big step. If I ever want to see a smile and no one else is around, whipping out the camera is a sure fire way to get the cheese.

My babe tonight. Such a relief to see her asleep and breathing without struggling. Nice, also, to see her upper lip without a pound of snot on it...if even for just a moment.

Now, some random photos of days past:

Two peas in a pod with gramps catching a nap.

Napping on a shopping spree on Shamian Island. I think this one is funny...it just looks like she smells something. Is that congee with basil I smell? ;0)

The whole group picture at The White Swan. Thanks F.T.I.A!

Take a look at this familiar painting:

Now, look at this. Doesn't this sight just scream out: "Where's my pitchfork?" ;0) She looks thrilled!

Red couch photo...talk about a funny fiasco. This would have been better in video. Amidst all the screaming, check out how my girl is staring at the little one in blue. EVERY time we saw this family she would hone in on this little girl. They even held hands in the airport. They are China sisters from the same orphanage and I know she loves this familiar face.

Another try. My kid looks like she is just wondering how in the world she ended up in the middle of all that chaos.
Half a cheese...she was too quick for my camera that day.

Mmmmm....carrots.
Geesh, mom....not another museum.

The cribs at both Galactic Peace in Nanchang and The Victory in Guangzhou were certainly not new and sparkly. But, I had to get a picture of what I call the 'asylum crib' at The Victory. It was a scary looking metal affair but my Wing didn't seem to mind it so much. It actually looks better in this picture than it did in reality.

Buddhist monk blessing the Wing. I LOVED the Buddhist temple. Just beautiful and a very zen place to be amidst all the busy-ness of China.

Beautiful temple doors. I left there wanting to become a monk (kinda).

That's all for now folks! The clippy bow in her hair lasted all of two seconds. Once she found it, all bets were off.
I have to say that I am feeling almost (kinda, sorta) normal. We have been home less than 72 hours and I feel like we went through the mill yesterday. But we got through and life is good. I feel much better rested and the Wing is slowly coming back to her more glorious self. Whew! I admit that first night home was incredibly difficult. I was so exhausted as was she and neither of us felt well. I cried at that point wondering how we would ever make it. Exhaustion is a powerful thing because when the new day came I knew all will be fine in time. I'm a happy mama and thankful the adjustments are going well so far. The hard parts have been brief...that is a lifesaver in itself.

Oh, as an aside. In the 6 days from her medical exam in China, the Wing grew 1.25 inches and lost about a pound...yeah, right. I DO believe she lost some weight with her illness and poor appetite but I'm not buying a pound. As well, I don't think she suddenly sprouted in 6 days like I'm feeding her Miracle-Gro. She is 18.6 pounds and 30 inches tall. She is at the 75th percentile for height and head circumference but is below the 10th percentile for weight. Not for long, I suspect.

Now, back to the highlight of my Saturday night....scraping a poop sample from a diaper. Who knew what would become of Saturday night? Even so, I wouldn't have it any other way.

For a snotty nose, I highly recommend Alkalol, it's a natural mucous solvent and you use it like saline. I get it at my local drug store (ask the pharmacist for it)and get a bottle of spray saline, dump the saline, refill with "boogie juice" and use it with a 3oz. bulb syringe to suck it all out. The first few times the kids howl, then they ask for it. I think I hear "I need boogie juice" more than any other phrase in winter in my daycare. It's VERY inexpensive, too. It's particularly great if you feel the slightest twinge of a sore throat coming on. I've not had a real sore throat since I started using this stuff. It was recomended to me by a one of my daycare kid's dads who's a Stanford Medical School graduate now an internist.

Yes, when you and your baby are sick it's easy to get a distorted perspective. I am so glad you are feeling more hopeful now with some rest. When I stepped off the plane with Abbey I handed her to my mom and then went to bed, after not having slept for a couple of days and being covered in throw up (A poured the puke bag on my head when I closed my eyes on the plane). Things sure looked better after a good sleep and shower. Also knowing that your girl has seen your ped and is on all the right meds help. I still get freaked out over a rattle in the lungs. You being a medical person and all must have a much better handle on it. Hugs to wild wing!

She loooks Spec-tac-ular in that dress!!! It fits her perfectly:)

Glad everyone is on the mend. Yeah, the snots...soph had snots her first year in daycare. This year no snots:)

Remember the golden rule....mama sleeps when baby sleeps.

oh sweet Chicken Wing! I just ate up these photos!!
How do you know you are soooo close to referral???
Answer:
When you look at the pic of CW and her "Chinese sister" (in the blue) staring at each other so intensely - and you cry.
I don't know why that picture touched me so....
And that SASSY red and white dress??? I did already tell you that you were my hero, right?? ;0)
Way to throw down the gauntlet!!!!
I hope you are both on your way to recovery and routine. It sure sounds like it!!!
XOXOXO

It's wonderful to hear how your Wing is starting to feel a little better. The jet lag kicks butt when you're feeling good so add in nasty sickness and I can't imagine!! Day light is a good thing - a very good thing.

Love hugs and prayers for both of you friend.

I am so happy your little one is getting better! She is so beautiful and I loved seeing the pics. It broke my heart seeing her look at her China sister and you telling the story. Our children have gone through so much.
I am thankful she is finally home.

So glad CW is doing better! For the first month of having Hannah I had snot on both shoulders. BTW, ditch any black shirts for awhile.

Just wait until about 2 weeks. You will feel so much better and things will start to fall into place.

Even sick the little PIPA is adorable!

On a side note, I noticed that you traveled with some friends of mine!

I don't blame CW for giving you The Look when you put that dress on her! But she wears it well. LOL!

Glad you're feeling better. Every day will get easier. I have no doubt about that. Just hang on for the ride.

Great to hear! The pics are awesome...love the honky tonk dress!

Keep smilin!

P.S. Did you know you were a quoted author...in my latest edition of Adoptive Families magazine, they quote stuff from the blogosphere. You are quoted there. I did a double take when I read it..."Hey...I know her!" I can scan it and email it to you to check it out yourself. I was going to do that originally...but I kept forgetting to...need more Ginko I guess.

I am so happy to hear that everyone is feeling a bit better. One day at a time. (how many freakin times have I said that??) Oh man do I remember that exhaustion like it was yesterday. I really lived in a fog for the first week. It DOES get better...and better...and better.. C - She is the cutest baby! Seriously that face...that smirk...I would give her anything! (you are in for some tough times of saying no my friend!)

Enjoy your first days home and take lots of pics. Thanks for sharing all of these. Oh and that red dress photo? I nearly pee'd.

So glad to see things are perking up. There's no way around the return from China. You just have to believe you will survive. CW is precious. As others have said, snot will be the buzzword for quite awhile yet but when you look at the little face it is on, who cares. Takes awhile to be your life right side up again after the addition of a little one. I'll bet from here on in you'll have an impish little smile when you hand over a baby you've delivered to the new parents as you picture the havoc coming to their house. Awesome that you finally have your CW. Blessings. Sherry Mc (Jenny's mom, Abby's meema)

Yay! It sounds like you are turning the corner. Love all the photos. How did I not know you were with FTIA? That was our agency. We loved them. Who was your guide?

I get Adoptive Families, too. I was very surprised to see two of my regular visiting spots quoted. Even they love you!

First of all, CW and the blue dress girl touched me enormously. Leaves one to wonder if they were crib buddies.

That dress you chose for her to wear on the red couch is just smashing. It really matches the couch well. ;0)
