Bullet-mania

  • I am doing a dance to the sleep gods tonight...please find my girl's original sleep patterns and send them back. Yes, I know, it is early yet in all the transition but you can't blame a girl for trying/hoping.
  • CW continues to improve in terms of her bronchiolitis each day. Today we ventured forth because she was doing well and I had to get out of this house before I started counting carpet fibers or something more whack.
  • My girl is a bit of a priss. She digs her groovy, girly shoes in particular. I handed her a pair of black patent Mary Janes in a store to keep her busy. Note to self: hand kid NOTHING you do not intend to buy. I was going to get some but I would have had no choice due to her death grip on those kicks. She gave the stink eye to the cashier and I had to get the kid cashier to come around and scan them as she held them to prevent an unforgettable experience. Lawd, a matter of days in the states and my girl is turning into an American Diva.
  • I think it odd that I think we are stared at more in this country than in China. Seriously. Of course, they are more so looking at her and telling her how cute and pretty she is. I've got to figure out something or The Wing will grow up to have a head the size of Texas.
  • I was hit up in BRU today for her to model in the local Baby Expo in two weeks. Geesh. I kindly turned them down. 1) We have to focus on settling in - not baby expos. 2) What in the world? If a day comes when she is asked and she wants to do such a thing I'll consider it but, when she can't decide, I'm not forcing her into that stuff. It was the weirdest thing to me to be approached about my daughter modeling anything in any capacity. The Wing is only 13 months old. Although this is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, it's a local baby expo for pity's sake, it was still strange to have anyone asking about my kid doing anything. Besides, she is already well on her way to Diva-hood without modeling anything ;0)
  • The Wing could only sit up when she came to me two weeks ago today. Even that was a little wobbly and she would fall over. Today she is standing up from a sitting postition with very little strength assist from me and just my support for balance. Wow, she's come a long way in two short weeks. Her leg strength is great but her balance and control need some serious work before she is walking...which will probably still be sooner than I think.
  • The Wing is a kleptomaniac. She swipes stuff in stores and I have to do a stroller clearance at each checkout. She is a stealthy little thing too. She stole a toy on Shamian Island and I had no idea until we were back in the hotel room. To this day I do not know what store it came from. I wondered why it is that I can take her stolen items out of the stroller without a meltdown but the shoes would have been a major incident. I decided it was because I had handed her the shoes...and because, well, they WERE snappy shoes after all.
  • For the suggestion about the papoose for the blood draw: thanks anyway. I know about those but there was not one available at the time/place we were drawn and it was too much work to lug her elsewhere feeling like crud.
  • The Wing loves to jump...like crazy. She is a jumpin' fool. If this keeps up I will have to get her one of those baby trampolines when her balance advances. She's wearing me out with her nonstop jumpability ;0)
  • Hah, I better go get some sleep while the getting is good. It's back to the ped tomorrow where I expect to hear good things. That and working on establishing a routine around here.
  • Have a good one!

Sounds like things are just as they should be and coming along.

The nursery trampolines are GREAT! I have two, one for my future daughter and one for my daycare kids. I don't know what I'd do without one, especially when it rains. My daycare kids are in the best aerobic health from it, too.

I just love reading your blog! Don't worry; you'll get used to Chicken Wing's admirers. Little Bit is just now learning to say "thank you," when folks compliment her--but she has stranger anxiety, so most just whips her head around in the opposite way. Ugh! You'll get your sleep patterns back soon, in the meanwhile, I love your bullets that describe life with the wing!

All in all, it sounds like you are doing very well!
Don't you just love the stares and conversations when out in stores with your cutie? We love to talk about adoption so will gladly let anyone ask questions (we have just learned to smile and jabber about our daughter when asked if she is our granddaughter!).
AA is going to have a BIG diva head too if we don't start curbing her from hearing all the adorable comments, I mean looks aren't everything!
You have a blast right now and soak in all the praise, smiles and love from the good-wishers!

I'm treasuring each and every one of these bullets - do you realize you are now a BTDT??! I can look to you for guidance and wisdom and best practices...

The cute comments? They DO lessen. But it was horrendous from the time we arrived home until she was at least 3.5 years old - people would even follow me up and down aisles in the store.

It got so that I would smile at the Tongginator and ask her, "and where does that prettiness come from?" And I trained her to point to her chest and say, "from my heart." That helped a bit, as a reminder to others, to her, to me.

I also learned to be much less friendly-looking. Avoiding eye contact, etc. I never thought I would be that mom, but the Tongginator didn't always WANT to put on a show for others.

I am so glad to hear that she is feeling better and that you are doing well too! Great news! Too cute how she is a little klepto! For the first time in her little life, she has things that all all her own and she is NOT turning back! I love all your pics, she's absolutely magical! Love her!!!

Things sound like they are going well and I am so happy for you.

I hope you had a good nights sleep last night!

oh, the shoe thing is hysterical!!! Watch out mama.
I'm glad you passed on the modeling gig. But could you blame the lady for trying. The Wing is just THAT stunning.
I showed D the pic of CW in the dress. He said, "awesome!"

So fun isn't it!! Yeah, like Tonggu Mama said...it does lessen and I think some of that is just that the girls get older and they kind of send off the message themselves. I got A a shirt that said "Quit staring, I know how cute I am " LOL

At least you are only getting the cute comments for now..just wait until the first person says "I don't know why they don't like their girl babies in China!" YUCK

Glad you are settling in and hope the sleep angels grant you your wish : )

When I was feeling cranky with the "cute" comments (they get overwhelming), I would just say she clearly gets it from her dad. That would usually shut people up, especially if my 6'8" very German looking husband was with us at the time. :)

A jumping klepto on your hands. Too funny. Ah, and she's already developed the love of shoes. Watch out or she'll be asking for some Jimmy Choo's soon.

Glad things are coming along quickly for her and that she's getting stronger, etc. And hopefully the good sleep pattern will return.

Things are coming along and you can't blame a girl for wanting some snappy new shoes.

Do you have one of those jumparoos that hangs from the door? They are fabulous for building leg strength.

Nice to read that things are going well and that CW is feeling better. The stares and cute comments will continue...because it's true! Now when someone says "Oh you're so cute" to Maisie, she just looks at them and says "Yes, I am" and all I can do is chuckle to myself. Good luck on getting CW's sleep back to China levels.

You are both doing so well...Grace(now 6) was really a jumping girl too at that age. Love your posts and so happy she's feeling better.

Sending good sleep thoughts your way too. :)

there is NOTHING better than a post you smile the WHOLE WAY THROUGH and then in a few spots, hear yourself giggling. she is a DELIGHT. and i kinda like her diva stealin' style. i had this vision of her little arm swipin' some posh items while glancin' up at mom to see if she noticed then grinning when she realized she got away with it. you could write a children's book already based on The Wing's life!

You are just so witty, I love the story of your little Klepto... hope she outgrows that one with time. ;-) I can't believe it's ONLY been two weeks, it seems like she's been with you so much longer.

We've only been to one ped so I thought the papoose was a standard thing. Sorry :-) We have a major f/u from original screen with repeat labs and I am not looking forward to them sticking my baby!

Glad CW seems to be doing better. It's amazing how quick they pick up strength and going through new developmental stages with lightening speed.

Sounds like you have your hands full! More pictures, please?

Sounds like you are both doing "mahvalous". :0)

Can't blame a girl for wanting shoes.. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't want snappy shoes

I agree with Tracy on the jumpy thing that hangs in the doorway. They are GREAT!

Hope the ped appointment went well

Fricke 92 cracked me up! It's so true that they can get irritating after awhile. (Heck we know our babes are cute and not just cause we're their mamas!!) Funny thing is E. kinda does look like my boyfriend so I can't use that one... Your Diva is divalicous at 13 months. You're sooooo in trouble, Connie!

Gee. I disappeared for a few days & look at what happened! Sorry to hear that CW has been sick but it's good to know that she is on the way to feeling better.
