I have to shout out a huge CONGRATS to T&J who finally have their beautiful Emerson Grace in their arms. There is nothing quite like that moment...nothing. I am so glad they know what I mean by that now.
Around here, the week flew by as I prepared to pack up my babe and my parents and set the wheels in motion for a VERY long drive to my niece's wedding on Saturday. I have to say my girl travels like a champ. She was smiley nearly the whole way there and back. Out of about 22hrs in the car she cried for 3 minutes and 38 seconds...yes, I timed it. She was amazing and I am grateful. It certainly helps that she really digs Grandma & Grandpa.
The wedding? Another story. It was a bit too overwhelming for her with a large number of people in her face wanting to hold her. That was fun to explain for time number 692. She and I stayed close (she was going velcro style) and most extended family were very respectful. But, it only takes a few goobers to throw things off course. I had to stand my ground and, fortunately, meltdown disasters were averted. Still, I feel like I drove a really long way to spend a lot of time in a hotel room ;0) Even so, it was worth it to be at my niece's wedding and know that my parents got to see their granddaughter get married.
C and I made a getaway by ourselves to stroll a beautiful park, swing and watch the geese for a while on Saturday morning...
Wedding time! All dressed and ready to go (ignore those peaches smeared all over the duvet ;0)
Why an empty church? It was a beautiful little place. But, ever try to take pictures of a moving wedding party while holding a squirming 15 month old and wearing high heels? I was never much with a camera anyhoo so that was way beyond my skill set ;0) Hopefully someone will be kind enough to email me candids of the actual wedding!
Now, we switch gears. On the way home we went to the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA. It is Memorial Day after all and, to me, it is about more than cookouts. There is something very tangible in the wind on that hill. You can feel it in your bones. I am pleased that a more fitting memorial is in the works at this site. The everyday people on that flight stepped up and helped each of us continue to enjoy our 'every day' by heroically preventing even greater destruction on 9-11.
When we arrived there I helped my mom into her wheelchair and placed my wee one on her lap. We wheeled across the gravel to see the memorial when a sudden cloudburst let loose. We were all drenched in the sudden pouring rain but no one cared. Even my daughter did not cry. She was completely saturated but she just sat with Grandma as Grandpa and I stood near. She didn't utter a peep. It was a moment that made me take notice. The rain was gone as quickly as it came. We headed on our way with a rainbow in sight.
There are only two ways to live your life. The one as though nothing is a miracle. The other as though everything is a miracle. - Albert Einstein
Certainly my daughter helps me choose the latter every single day.
Enjoy.

The above is translated from Portuguese to say:
God bless you all.
God bless us all.
Thank you, Vanessa.
Your girly travle so well...WOW! 22 hours and I would have cried a lot more than she did!
How neat to visit the memorial. 9/11 changed us all forever and so thankful you were able to take time to pay your respects for those who gave their lives for others.
WOW.. great job on the 22 hours...
Looks like you had a great time..
Love the photos.
Happy Memorial Day...
Have a great week..
She is a miracle.
And sometimes just getting out of the house is a miracle. I'm sure you're experiencing that.
Bravo to you for being an advocate for your daughter and also letting her experience life.
I so want to see that 93 memorial some day.
Thank you for sharing your experience at the memorial. We've never been. My sister's high school friend Christine Snyder died on Flight 93.
Amazing photos for a true Memorial Day post.
Thanks for sharing them.
Sounds like your girl is settling into life just fine. Glad to hear how well she's doing.
I visited Ground Zero twice. The 1st was just 6 mths after 9-11. It moved me to my core to stand there. I imagine that hill does the same.
missed you!
Gaaaw I hope that Sophie has some of C's travel mojo....we hit the road in about 2 weeks!
we spent memorial day with some veterans. It was quite nice.
Sounds like you have a super traveller!
Keep smilin!
The rainstorm sounds like and incredible and poignant moment. And a promise in a rainbow at the end - beautiful.
Glad you're living your miracle fully.
What a perfect way to observe Memorial Day.
Glad you and PIPA had a good trip, even if most of it was spent in a car or hotel room. :o)
LOVE her dress for the wedding! Too cute!
Glad your trip went well. It is exhausting, isn't it, to take a little one. I always laugh when people "suggest" me taking the kids to a festival or something by myself. Riiiiight. 'Cause there's NO stress involved there. None at all. Snort.
The dress for the wedding? SO cute!
The memorial story? Beautiful. You are smitten. It's no use denying it. You are. :-)
Great post. Glad to hear the wing is a great traveler. I totally LOVE that for Maddy and I. We can go anywhere because of it and I am sooo very thankful.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the wedding dress. Of course, I'm a gal who loves little gals in dresses.
Very cool Memorial Day. As much as ground zero must be something to see, I'll never forget those folks who took that plane down in order to save the lives of others. I can't imagine ever having to make that decision.
Thank you for posting the pictures of the memorial. What a terrible, terrible day, but what brave and selfless Americans.
Someday, I will get out there and tell the story to my kids.
God bless us all indeed.
Wonderful weekend (even with all the driving)... family, fun and some moments remembering the fallen.
Love the pictures.
