You guys are cracking me up...you've got me with power strips-surge protectors, and nothing short of a small elephant to take along ;0) Remember, this gig is carry on only. I can't fit a mouse turd in my case at this point. I'm just glad I'll be chucking the dress clothes.
I'm not taking my Mac because it is a very large-screen desktop. Talk about problems with carry-on only! I bought a POC (piece-of-crap) inexpensive PC laptop so I don't have to have a heart attack if something does happen to it. I don't have the dinero to whip out on a MacBook on a whim although lust would lead me there. I can handle a PC...they just bore me. But, that will be my China pal. I am going to do my best to blog but it all just depends how it goes. I feel no pressure but to make a good setting for a happy family starting in China. The rest is gravy.
Prescriptions are picked up, insurance changes are made (supposedly), leave is finalized (sorta ;0), daycare part-time beginnings are scheduled in later April and I am ready on nearly all counts to be outta here. I am a little miffed at the bank who told me just today that even though they order 'virgin money' that there is no guarantee that's what they will get. Apparently they did not get uncirculated bills. Great. Would have been nice had I known this a week ago. I told them to pick out what then can without marks and it looks like I'll be ironing it. Insane, I tell ya. My luck, I'll catch it on fire!
Gotta fly. Thanks, again, for the suggestions....even if I don't pack a power plant in my suitcase ;0)

Aaaaah...the craziness before the travel. I. LOVE. IT. As nuts as it sounds, this was the part of the process I actually enjoyed. You're THIS close to getting your child. Enjoy that trip. Enjoy the last minute craziness. Enjoy that little girl! :)
LOL @ mouse turd. Seriously...snorted. :)
Sorry about the money, that really sucks! I never have understood about that rule, our agency took care of that junk for us. Be sure and let us know how the ironing goes, I never was good at ironing, so I can only imagine what I'd do to a $100 bill.
You'll be fine with the POC/PC, I share your love of all things Mac, but am not sure I'd take along my MacBook either.
8 days, yee hah!!
Hi there Mama! Geez, what are you up to? 6 days to go?!
Let me set your mind at ease... if you're talking about the chinese Yuan donation... they don't care if they're new notes or not. We actually changed our Aussie dollars, here. As long as its all there!
Thinking of you! I just can't express in words, what an amazing time it is meeting the baby of your dreams.... in real life! Claire's pics remind me alot of Tari... I think she will be a happyy little baby.
Well my friend. Its only moments away.... and your life will be changed forever! (((hugs))) Safe travels.
Our bank did the same thing to me. If you have any friends or connections with other banks see if they will exchange some bills for you. As far as getting the bills to China in good condition, we separated them into stacks for the different fees and put each stack into a snack size zip lock bag. This kept them from getting wrinkled or soaked in sweat in the money belt. I put a post it inside each bag saying what it was for and I only had to pull out the bags that I needed for each fee. Good luck on your trip, it is a trip of a lifetime.
just the picture in my head of you carting the desktop as a carry-on was enough to make me giggle after a long day!!!
I always think back to Jen and Abby... If she could manage without a stick of luggage... anything is possible. So you are so far ahead of the game in that respect. If anyone can go COO you could!!!
I hope the money thing works out... be careful with that iron!!
I agree with OzMum about the bills. As long as they are in good condition, no writing on them, no rips or tears, stains, or obvious dirt, they're good with it. Brand-new crisp bills are not necessary.
That being said, we helped one of our travel mates with their $ by exchanging some of our money with theirs and then just purchased stuff from the vendors in GZ with the less-than-perfect bills. Which, by the way many of them take American dollars so don't stress about Yuan too much either. I found out about this little travel tip on our LAST day in GZ. Bummer! Same goes for the pearl shops in GZ. Of course, they're all different and every trip is different, but that was our experience.
Don't stress about the money. Mine was not pristine but they took it anyway.
Counting down with ya! Can't wait to see your trip unfold :)
Hey woman! I'm getting so excited for you!!! Just one small note: DO NOT USE SPRAY STARCH ON U.S. MONEY!!!! You won't be happy if you do!!! (That's from the ex-chemist hubby.) Can't wait to see you with your Pipalicious Chick!!!
I agree about the money too. I wasn't able to get brand new bills, but I got ones that were fairly new and looked nice enough and I had no problems at all.
In Beijing, we actually asked the hotel for a surge protector/converter and they gave one to us. Don't worry about it too much!
Hope you feel better soon! I know what it is like heading to China sick! Yikes!
Been there, done that my friend!
I am sooo excited for you!!
By any chance are you near Columbus?
Safe travels!!!
Hugs, Jill
You may want to try a money exchange place. We have them in the mall here and they often get virgin money....and thus no ties to the iron. Less ironing is always a good thing!!
I say, the less you bring, the more you can buy.
Laundering money so soon to travelling!! hee hee
I am getting cuaght up and I am beyond thrilled that you are getting outta here and getting your butt to China and Miss P!!
Feel 100% soon!
Keep smilin!
It sounds like you are all ready to go and you will do great with the things you are bringing. So excited for you my friend.
Hugs,
Jonni
It is just so wonderful that the time has come! I am so excited for you both!!!! I know your baby love was so worth the wait but how wonderful that the wait is almost over and she will soon be in her Mama's arms!
The money doesn't have to be PERFECT. But, as nice as you can get it. I don't think you will really have to iron it. lol
Happy squeezing a mouse terd into your bag!
You're going carry-on-only?! Wow, you are much better than I was! Sis and I took a whole house with us!! ROFL. ;-)
Have a GREAT Trip!
a week to go!! Yay! I remember the excitement of the last minute stuff ... ENJOY!!!
Been out of town and just catching up. OMG - 8 days?!? I'm amazed at the COO. I'm in awe (this from someone who was already over the weight limit on the trip TO China!)
